Policy On Committee Members Conference and Training Attendance
OBJECTIVE To ensure that committee members have equitable access to a range of relevant training and development opportunities to enhance their ability to fulfill their roles and responsibilities as elected committee members and to provide good governance to WARA. POLICY It is WARA’s policy that:
1. The President attend the Local Government Managers Association Conference annually to keep abreast of the issues local government is facing currently and in the future; and to network and promote WARA.
2. Resources are made available to provide the opportunity for committee members to participate in appropriate training as determined by the Committee.
The following evaluation matrix is to be completed by the Zone committee Chair in liaison with the President and included in the WARA minutes of the next Committee Meeting. A minimum of 20 points is required for the President to recommend that the Committee approve Committee Member attendance:
(Some criteria of 1-5 need to be developed as a guide)
3. WARA Executive Committee approval is required in advance in order for any committee member to attend an intrastate or interstate conference requiring an overnight stay or longer. If the Executive Committee approval is granted, then accommodation and traveling expenses will be met upon receipt of tax invoices.
4. Committee Members who attend conferences and training shall provide a verbal or written report to the Executive Committee on the outcomes of the conference/training.
