POLICY ON GIVING DONATION

OBJECTIVES

To ensure that the means exist for the WA Rangers Association to give donations for:

  • Projects that promote the WA Rangers Association and Rangers in the course of their duties.
  • To assist Rangers (and their families) injured in the course of the officers duties.

POLICY

It is acknowledged that funds collected and raised by WA Rangers Association are jointly owned by all members of the Association.  Accordingly donations should only be given that will support Rangers and promote the WA Rangers Association.

Any member of the WA Rangers Association can request a donation by:-

  • Submitting a report to the Annual General Meeting.
  • Requesting a special general meeting is held to consider the proposal.

It is acknowledged that due to distance and Rangers being on duty etc., not all members will be able to attend such meetings.  Therefore signed postal votes of members will be accepted.  When requesting a donation a short report on the proposal shall be circulated to members.   Likewise any member objecting to the proposal is entitled to lobby members and circulate their objections.  Special effort should be made to address issues relating to the application whilst avoiding personal vilification.

POSTAL VOTE OFFICER

A member will be assigned to open postal votes before the meeting and present any views expressed at the meeting.  They should not identify the Ranger unless they agree to it, or give result of postal votes until debate has been completed and those at the meeting have voted.

Normally request for donations should be under $750.00.  A majority of votes of those present and signed postal votes will see the motion carried.

The following are circumstances for which donations will be considered.

TO ASSIST RANGERS AND THEIR FAMILIES WHERE AN OFFICER HAS BEEN INJURED DURING THE COURSE OF THEIR DUTIES.

For example a Ranger could be injured by dogs, wild life, livestock, at fires, storms etc.  Such incidents should be covered by workers compensation insurance.  On occasions there have been delays in payments and financial matters requiring urgent attention.

In such situations members and their families should not hesitate to seek assistance.  Likewise members learning of such situations should not hesitate to bring the matter to the attention of their Regional Representative and the Executive Committee of the WA Rangers Association.

EXEMPTION FROM THIS POLICY

Members are commended for their private support of charities and community projects.  This policy does not prevent members from privately collecting for the listed or other projects.

  • Due to the recommendation at an Association AGM, the Starlite Foundation is the Associations designated charity.  This policy does not prevent members from collecting funds for the Foundation at the Annual Seminar or at any other time.
  • If the public gives donations to the Association for any particular project, the money should only be used for that project.  If that is not practical the funds with the donor’s approval should be passed onto an agency that can help or the funds should be returned to them.
  • It has been the Associations policy to send flowers/condolences to the families of members who have died.  This is an operational matter and members are encouraged to bring such incidents to the attention of Regional Representatives and/or the Executive Committee.
  • This policy does not prevent the Association spending funds on major operational projects, although such projects should be discussed at AGM or Special General Meetings.

POLICY ADOPTED BY EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE ON THE 10 AUGUST 2005

SIGNED BY WA RANGERS ASSOCIATION VICE PRESIDENT.

Ms Samantha Tarling
