The Big News WARA's Strategic Plan 2006 to 2010 is now online under the WARA dropdown bar "Home" page. also For the last 30 days as of Friday 19th January, your WARA Website went over 1500 visitors for the first time. In fact on Wednesday 3rd January we received 91 visitors in 1 day. Another record !! Thanks a million for your support !! Over the coming year and in line with WARA's Strategic Plan, we will be giving more attention to reputation management in a number of ways, one being expanding our internet presence. One way members and friends can help is by making warangers.asn.au your "Home" page. This means, every time you double click on "Internet Explorer", the first website to appear will be WARA's which will record another visitor. You then carry on to whatever site you were wanting, but in the meantime, you are greatly assisting the Association. We will be pursuing new goals through new initiatives in the near future and a higher number of visitors to the WARA site will assist us in these strategies. How to make WARA your "Home" page:
We encourage our members and friends to do this with your office and home PC's and even get your kids, family and friends to help out. Like we said above, "Thanks a million"! |

Has anyone seen my daughter? |

From Shire of Roebourne G’ day all, My name is Luke Hansen, I have been a Ranger with the Shire of Roebourne for almost 3.5 years. I have experienced many exciting and different experiences over this time from battening down the hatches during cyclones to visiting aboriginal communities to treat dogs for parasites. An average day might include doing patrols of a suburb in Karratha for dogs, cyclone hazards, litter issues movable dwellings, parking issues and abandon vehicles. Dealing with some barking dog complaints. Then, onto the pound to clean it and feed the dogs. Patrols of Roebourne, Wickham, Cossack and Point Samson would be next dealing with issues in each of the town sites. Then finally back to the pound in Karratha to impound the collected dogs. Then into the office to complete the paperwork for the jobs done through out the day, and enter the impounded dogs onto the pound, and discuss which dogs can be re-homed and which dogs need to be put down. Then we collect the weapons, fill out the gun register and dispatch the dogs that need to be put down at the Tip. Return the weapons. Fill out the paper work. And finish the day. Now I have got a position with Australian Fisheries Management Authority (AFMA) as a Fisheries Compliance Officer. My role will be patrolling The Australian Fishing Zone (AFZ) which is the third largest in the world, covering nearly nine million square kilometres. It extends to 200 nautical miles from the Australian coastline and also includes the waters surrounding our external territories, such as Christmas Island in the Indian Ocean, and Heard and McDonald Islands in the Antarctic. AFMA shares responsibility for managing some fisheries with the States and Northern Territory. However, a general rule of thumb is that States and the Northern Territory manage inshore species, such as rock lobster and abalone, whereas AFMA generally manages deeper water finfish and tuna species. My job will involve going out to sea for 14 days at a time into the northern waters patrolling for illegal fishermen. Then 30-60 days in the Antarctic once or twice a year. Last years stats are: Final apprehension and sightings figures for 2006, released today, show:

A Bit Odd !
|
|
Hi I'm Tazzy. This week I found a photo of a Ranger's house who did'nt want to draw attention to himself, so he put up a new picket fence around the property to hide his identity. Some Rangers in the Western suburbs are a bit strange though, don't you think? Guess who's house it is and win a teapot. |

Death By Chocolate ! |
|
Today's useless fact - Why is
chocolate poisonous to dogs but not to humans?
Chocolate contains, theobromine an alkaloid that dogs can't metabolize quickly.
If a dog ingests a large amount
of chocolate, the theobromine can build up and reach a toxic level
of concentration, leading to cardiac arrest.
Different types of chocolate are
more harmful than others, and the effects will vary, depending upon
the size and weight of the dog. However, it is potentially lethal.
If you know your dog has ingested chocolate take him to a vet immediately.
Some of the other household
items can cause harm to your fuzzy friend. For instance, did
you know common plants such as azaleas, rhododendron, and foxglove
can all cause heart failure if ingested?
But why isn't theobromine poisonous to humans? We humans can break down and excrete theobromine much more efficiently than dogs, rendering it effectively harmless. Just remember: Chocolate's a tasty treat for humans, but it can be fatal to our four-legged friends.

You Must Be Joking! A man walks into the street and manages to immediately get a taxi just going by.
He gets into the taxi, and the cabbie says, "Perfect timing. You're just like Frank."
Passenger: "Who?"
Cabbie: "Frank Feldman. He's a guy who did everything right - all the time. Like my coming along when you needed a cab, things happened like that to
Frank - every single time."
Passenger: "There are always a few clouds over everybody."
Cabbie: "Not Frank. He was a terrific athlete. He could have won the Grand Slam at tennis. He could golf with the pros. He sang like an opera baritone
and danced like a Broadway star and you should have heard him play the piano".
Passenger: "Sounds like he was something really special."
Cabbie: "There's more...... He had a memory like a computer. Could remember everybody's birthday. He knew all about wine, which foods to order and
which fork to eat them with. He could fix anything. Not like me. I change a fuse, and the whole street blacks out."
Passenger. "Wow, some guy then."
Cabbie: "He always knew the quickest way to go in traffic and avoid traffic jams. Not like me, I always seem to get stuck in them."
Passenger. "Mmm, there's not many like him around."
Cabbie: "And he knew how to treat a woman and make her feel good and never answer her back even if she was in the wrong; and his clothing was always
immaculate, shoes highly polished too - the perfect man!"
Passenger: "Wow - An amazing fellow. How did you meet him?"
Cabbie: "Well, I never actually met Frank."
Passenger: "Then how do you know so much about him?"
Cabbie: "I married his bloody widow!"
